In 2018 the Hostel Bear in Canmore was renovated and rebranded as Basecamp Lodge. Located adjacent to Basecamp I & II, it now forms of a trio of Basecamp Resorts buildings along Bow Valley Trail.
The modifications to the existing building were simple yet striking. The intention was not only to modernize, but to refresh and rebrand the space. The most visible modifications came on the exterior with the stucco and vertical wood boards being painted to match the colours of Basecamp I. The existing wood shakes and log accents were reinvigorated with a new clear protective paint finish.
Working with MK Design Group Inc., the interiors were refurbished to reflect a more contemporary style. Amenity spaces along with a sauna and breakfast kitchen were also include in the renovation. In cooperation with the town of Canmore, the hotel also added three employee housing suites to accommodate the growin number of seasonal employees unable to find suitable housing.
