Basecamp Suites is located on a small infill site downtown Canmore. The initial challenge of the project was to provide a shared amenity spaces and mountain views in such a compact space. Coupled with this challenge, was the need to achieve a healthy rentable unit count as well as appropriate parking capacity.

The site features two street front facing facades along both 10th and 9th streets in the downtown core. On 10th street, the building addresses the pedestrian retail atmosphere by stepping back both horizontally and vertically from the street. The partially covered walkway leads patrons to a courtyard at the centre of the site. On 9th street, a more utilitarian approach was employed in the design. The design features a porte-cochere that invites patrons to drive into the courtyard, composed of vehicle parking at grade and floating walkways above.

The intent of the courtyard is to provide centralized access to each unit from their vehicles. This allows for a good amount of natural light to penetrate each living space and to create framed views of the surrounding mountains. The material treatment of this project is similar to other Basecamp projects. A mix of smooth fibre cement panel, real wood siding, and white board and batten cladding were utilized.
